    Very good

my hotel room smelt of smoke.

  • 9.6
    Exceptional

I loved the 16th century features of the building and the four poster bed. The food, especially the chef's homemade onion relish, and staff were excellent and everyone was really helpfull when the water pipe burst in another room,

The bedrooms and bathrooms were too hot and the heating was on all night.

    Fabulous

    Beautiful historic rooms, scenery

extortionate price of a bottle of wine!

    Exceptional

We only stayed one night, but it was very nice. Photography is a hobby and I spent half the night poking around and taking photos and the staff was helpfull and supportive.

The only downside was we were on the top level, there is a winding staircase that really winds and is steep. I had two heavy bags as well as the person I was with. It was really hard on him and he had to sit down to rest at the top. I know it is a historic building, but I am sure there is a way to install a small lift for luggage. When you book, ask for a lower floor or ask them to have some carry your bags up.

Enjoyed our stay very much the evening meal was excellent. The room very comfortable. .We found it very convenient for all the Museums and thoroughly enjoyed Blists Hill which we spent the whole day at.

The hairdryer seemed to be missing.

    Superb

beautiful setting, fine architecture well adapted to hotel accomodation. High quality food and service provided by the hotel restaurant. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel to others.

    Fabulous

Lovely building so good atmosphere and food was excellent.

Check in and check out time took a bit a bit of a while even though the lady doing it (Karen) was very efficient. Hotel software was a bit erratic so didnt recognise credit cards even though already pre authorised so delayed things a bit but no big deal

    Very good

The hotel main building is beautiful, retaining many of its traditional features. The staff are very polite and helpful. The restaurant has a varied and interesting menu. The bedroom and ensuite bathroom were spacious, comfortable and very clean.

Our bedroom was in the west wing which meant you had to walk outside to get to the room. Not so good on a wet evening or a cold morning. The shower in the bedroom was not very powerful. It was like having a shower under a watering can. Although tea and coffee facilities were available in the room, there were only 2 plug sockets available to plug the kettle into. These were next to the desk. This meant moving the whole tray and kettle to the desk or carrying a kettle of boiling water across the room to the tray of cups. For the price of the room it would have been nice to have a box of tissues in the room. As this hotel is very popular for wedding receptions, breakfast on a Sunday morning can be particularly busy and stressful.

    Very good

Great looking building in fantastic setting. Quality of the food in restaurant was very good .

I would like a receipt for everything I sign for in the hotel ie. drinks, wine, food suppliments etc. this would allow guests to keep an eye on their spending and avoid errors when paying the bill !!!!! Service was not very quick in the restaurant (long time between courses) but the staff were good. The bathrooms in rooms 44 and 45 were very, very cold.

    Fabulous

    The buildings and surroundings.

The food standard was way below what I expected. It was inexpensive, but I would rather have paid more for good food. A 16th century dining room that serves food like in a third class slab is an enormous waste.

    Good

Location, historic features and setting. Restaurant food.

Staff not very aware, seemed inexperienced. No desk in room with which to work on. Poor layout of bathroom.

I can only apologise but the only thing we both liked about this hotel was the location because it ensured a good night`s sleep.

On arrival I noticed two concrete planters, if I hadn`t observed them whilst arriving in the light it would have been very easy for anyone to fall over them as the entrance was very poorly lit. The reception staff seemed to be poorly trained, the winding stairs were difficult to climb with many bags and very dangerous, no lift available and the rope bannister was frayed in places. The room which was the Gables, looked like you were entering a cupboard, had to leave light on in the night in the bathroom, as you would have tripped over the wooden heightened step. Bathroom wasn`t cleaned on the Saturday and glasses were left close to the loo (yuk), no shower curtain. Anyone over 5` 6" would have banged there head on the beams. Cushions that I placed on the floor whilst sleeping, were still there after the chamber maid had been in. Over priced food and we needed to be out of the hotel for business by 8.00am, breakfast wasn`t served until then but offered room service and an additional £ 5 per head. Need I go on....NO It was overpriced, health and safety would have a field day and would appreciate some sort of reimbursement, to be honest. We have stayed in premier inns and they far outshine the Madeley Court Hotel, it was unfortunate that this was the only accomodation left in Telford for a late booking. We will not be staying there again.

    Beautiful location, great shower

Rooms remote from main building, got wet in the rain. Room very cold, heating was switched off when I got there

The log fire in the lounge, which enabled us to get warm, after being in our room - see below.

    1. We booked a Junior Suite, but were allocated an Historic Room. 2. The room was cold and the heating facilities were old and wholly inadequate. Two extra electric radiators and a fan heater were provided, after complaint. The bathroom was particularly cold. An extension lead had to be provided, stretching across the bedroom, to heat the bathroom. 3. The staff at Reception were defensive and unhelpful in our complaints about the room and our wish to be moved to a Junior Suite, as booked. 4. The electric sockets in the room appeared dangerous - some moved into the wall when a plug was inserted. 5. Some of the lights in the room did not work. 6. The restaurant menu required payment of supplements for most things, over the basic price. 7. The path from the Reception outside to our room in the Gatehouse was poorly lit. 8. Drinks in the over-lit, soulless bar were overpriced. 9. No help was offered to carry luggage up and down the narrow, winding staircase. 10. The staff were young and amateur. No evidence of overall management.
